Email Overload

If you're anything like me, your inbox feels like a never-ending tidal wave. I recently read that most professionals get about 120 emails a day. Honestly? That sounds like a dream! Between clients, colleagues, marketing updates, content sources, and the inevitable random emails, I often start my day with 400+ unread messages.

And then there are the emails waiting for a response—the ones you have to circle back to (if you even remember them in the flood).

Here’s what I’ve learned to keep things manageable:
Subject lines matter. Make them concise and direct. I open those that seem important.
Keep emails focused. Stick to 1–2 topics max. When I get emails with multiple points, I usually respond to the most important ones and leave the rest.
Break it up. If you’ve got a lot to cover, send multiple emails over time rather than one overloaded message.

Why? We’re all on overload. Tackling a couple of points at a time is more digestible—and more likely to get a response.

And if you only respond to part of an email? No worries. If the other points matter enough, the sender will follow up. Sure, it’s more emails, but smaller chunks are much easier to handle.

What’s your best tip for managing the email madness?
